Lee Strobel, an atheist-turned-Christian and former reporter for the Chicago Tribune, says the national media continues to blur the line between opinion and fact.

Strobel worked at the Chicago paper for 14 years and became a Christian after investigating the claims of Christ. He is now a well-known author and speaker and runs a popular apologetics website. His book, The Case for Christ, is a national best-seller.

According to Strobel, recent media coverage of the presidential campaign is 'troubling to him' for a number of reasons. Strobel believes the demise of daily newspapers is bad for democracy in America.

"We're going to get to the place where we no longer have experts," says Strobel. "For instance, in religion...writers at major newspapers covering important stories involving faith...They're being fired." Strobel adds," We're losing them, and there's been a couple in the last few days - major religion writers who have lost their jobs."

Strobel believes faith writers are being replaced by opinionated bloggers. He feels many of them do not have any "credibility or any experience or know anything about journalism or ethics."

When asked about the recent media coverage of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, and its questioning of her Christian beliefs and ability to be both a mother and a national leader, Strobel contends there indeed is a bias and clear double-standard common throughout the national media.
